about

Sometimes the party happens after the comedown.

After 2011's "Not Here", the bruised and beautiful noise/drone opus
praised by sources as diverse as BBC 6Music, Rinse FM's Ben UFO, and Canada's Exclaim! magazine, 21-year-old Londoner Aurist - real name Liam Adams - returns to put the club through the wringer.

His new album, "Cute Out (Pink Flame #3)", draws its inspiration from
a broad range of music, particularly footwork, hip-hop and other bass
styles, as well as from the based ideology of Lil B (the title of
"CO(PF3)" suggests it as a successor to the Based God's
similarly-named mixtape).

It's not as dramatic a leap as it might sound. Amid straight-up
bangers like "Doin Twitches" and "Footworking in Bed", the acute sound processing of Adams' noise past seeps through in "Cute Out"'s layers of synths and murk - "Nytol Skank"'s hypervigilant groove, the wistful ambience of "Tiny Shorts & MKULTRA", the fever dream of "Daddy". A track like "Friend" could be the night-before cousin of "Not Here"'s "Blind & Elated", the relentless beat only just holding up the sheer weight of the sound on top.

And all this without even mentioning the second part of the album,
which chops and screws the first part to within an inch of its promethazine-fogged life, rinsing out everything still further.

It's tough but tender, fierce and melodic, up and down. It's London under late capitalism, 2013. It's "Cute Out (Pink Flame #3)".
